McArthur visits award-winning Orkney Builders site

20 Jan 2025

Orkney MSP Liam McArthur today visited the Orkney Builders site at Walliwall in Kirkwall to see the work being done by the team, following the success of site manager Eric Wallace at the National Housebuilding Council Awards last year, where he was recognised as the Scottish Small Housebuilder of the Year.

Mr McArthur’s visit comes ahead of the NHBC Pride in Job national awards, which are to be held in London next week, and will see Mr Wallace and Orkney Builders in the running for further honours as they carry the flag for Scotland. Mr Wallace will be joined in London by OB Managing Director, Stephen Kemp who helped host Monday’s visit to the Walliwall site.

Commenting afterwards, Mr McArthur said:

“The visit provided a great opportunity to /see firsthand the exceptional work being done by Eric and his team in providing consistently high quality homes for the people of Orkney.

“Seeing the work that OB and the range of contractors they work with being recognised at these prestigious national awards is also really positive for Orkney as a whole.

“Today’s visit to Walliwall provided a chance to discuss with NHBC some of the issues faced by house builders in the islands, including the impact of rising costs. This presents real challenges in meeting the demand for housing going forward, but there is clearly confidence in the local sector that they can rise to those challenges.

“Meantime, I wish Eric and Stephen the best of luck at the national NHBC awards next week and congratulate them again on this richly deserved recognition.”
