McArthur raises a cup for Macmillan Cancer Support

Orkney's MSP, Liam McArthur, is calling on people in Orkney to dust off their aprons and get involved in this year's Macmillan Cancer Support Coffee Morning.

The annual Macmillan Coffee Morning, which is due to take place on Friday 30 September, is a vital part of fundraising for the charity to enable its invaluable services to continue. Over £710,000 was raised last year alone, adding to the almost £300 million since it first began in 1990.

Mr McArthur recently met Macmillan External Affairs Manager, Kate Seymour, in the Scottish Parliament to hear more about the important work the charity does to support people with cancer and their families.

With one in two people facing a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, it’s never been more important for people living with cancer to get the urgent help they need.

Commenting, Mr McArthur said:

"Whether it's a cuppa in the office or traybakes with your neighbours, I'm calling on people in Orkney to get involved with this year's Macmillan Cancer Support Coffee Morning.

"Macmillan specialist nurses provide invaluable support to those affected by cancer in Orkney and across the country. With the pandemic sadly having a knock-on impact to cancer diagnosis and treatment, now more than ever we need to get the kettle boiled and cakes baked for Macmillan.

"It's easy to get involved and you can hold yours however and whenever you like. Most importantly, every pound raised will help Macmillan to provide their vital local support."

Kate Seymour, Macmillan Cancer Support, added:

"Last year, people hosted Coffee Mornings across Scotland and raised over £710,000 which was amazing. It helped us to provide much needed support, including Macmillan Grants to over 4,000 people in Scotland.

"Whether you host a Coffee Morning or join in, every penny raised helps Macmillan to provide the local services that people living with cancer desperately need, especially at the moment."
