McArthur encourages Orkney voluntary groups to apply for new cost-of-living fund
Orkney's MSP, Liam McArthur, has encouraged local voluntary groups to apply for the Third Sector Cost of Living Crisis Fund which opened today (Tuesday).
Administered by Voluntary Action Orkney (VAO) and funded via the Council through their allocation from the Scottish Government’s Islands Cost Crisis Emergency Fund, up to £15,000 can be awarded to third sector organisations in Orkney struggling with rising operational costs.
Organisations will need to meet set criteria to successfully apply for the fund, such as demonstrating that their need for funding is critical and directly related to challenges caused by the impact of increasing energy and overhead costs. Capital and/or revenue funding can be awarded to meet immediate costs which are essential to sustaining services or to increase services in response to heightened demand caused by the cost-of-living crisis.
The deadline for applications is 9am on Monday 6 February.
Commenting, Mr McArthur said:
"The cost-of-living crisis has placed community groups under even greater strain through increased operational costs and demand. So I'm pleased that additional government funding is being targeted at these services which are needed now more than ever.
"With less than two weeks until the deadline, I strongly encourage any voluntary groups and third sector organisations in Orkney experiencing financial pressures to come forward with an application as soon as possible. Whether the need is small or large, make sure you utilise this opportunity to support the most vulnerable in our community.
"Davie Campbell and the team at VAO are on hand to support any groups with their application and to ensure this critical funding is distributed as swiftly as possible."
